How to Sell Website on Flippa?
December 10, 2015, I listed my website on Flippa for auction. It was a premium listing. Premium listing highlights your auction and thus, helps you stand out. This, in turn, gets you more buyers. For the last 2 days, my auction was #1 listing on Flippa. This is the main reason I received an extensive amount of bids. So, always list your website in Flippa’s premium listing if 5 figures is your target amount for selling your website. Earlier, I sold a website for $299. But in this article, we are going to discuss my 2nd website. We are going to examine all the details and I am going to explain everything so that new sellers can benefit from this information and sell their website on Flippa successfully.
Flippa is by far the largest community for buying and selling of websites and that is why I absolutely love it. Even though I have to pay a small amount in the form of a commission fee, I can reach out to hundreds of potential buyers in just a few hours. Doesn’t it sound amazing?
Before selling a website on flippa, you should have a clear idea of how you can promote your auction and how to sell effectively. So here you go…
1. Flippa Account – Verify It
If you wish to gain the trust of a large number of buyers then this is a crucial step. Although faking of the verification methods is also a possibility, most buyers are unaware of this fact. If possible, verify yourself and all the different accounts on various platforms. If your account passes all the tests and is verified, it will be easy to make buyers believe that you are a genuine seller and a real person.
Step 1 – Listing Your Website on Flippa
As far as official steps are concerned, there are total 8 of them for carrying out the listing of your website on Flippa. However, since this guide is an unofficial one, I have added some more beneficial steps that can come in handy and help you drive more buyers.
First, log on to Flippa.com/sell.
Step 2 – Website
This is quite a straightforward step. It is important that you select the correct website type before you list it for selling as there are people who filter off certain categories before searching. Don’t try to use methods that show an extended website age. Buyers can actually perform tests to know the age of the website and if it is different from your listings, it can drive them away permanently.
Step 3 – Traffic – Use Google Analytics For Monitoring Traffic
Verifying your Google Analytics traffic through Flippa’s authentication checks is a near necessity for buyers to feel safe. If you are new and have missed to install a GA, initiate the installation as soon as possible, wait for about 3 months and then come back. Even though a seller can fake a GA, it is a rare instance. Flippa has drafted an article on this practice in lieu of making buyers aware.
Even if you are making an attempt to fake traffic, you should know that a buyer with even a tiny bit of experience will be able to detect it. In the end, these methods are not likely to bear fruit.
Step 4 – Revenue
Two of the most important factors that buyers take into account while buying a website is the traffic and the generated revenue. The URL of your website traffic, website age, monthly traffic, and revenue are the main factors buyers will check before sorting through different listings.
Make sure you provide accurate answers to the monetization methods.
Step 5 – Financial Details
If your website is relying only on Adsense, verify it using Flippa’s authentication methods. If you are using some other monetization sources for earning revenue, fill them up in the relevant fields.null
Step 6 – Sales Pitch (Most Crucial)
This is the area where your general marketing instincts play a major role. There are total 3 fields in which you have to fill out your site information.
A. Tagline
When buyers click on your website listing, a tagline is the first thing they are going to see. There is a limit of 80 characters, so make sure you make the most out of the given opportunity. Take a look at this lousy tagline.
1. Adsense website making $1,520/month. Total traffic is 100k/uniques and 1 hour/Week Only
Of course, this tagline conveys the message, but the usage of extra words here is unnecessary. Compare it to this one:
2. Adsense – $1,520/Month – 100k/Uniques/Month – 1 Hour/Week – Easy Passive Income
This tagline gives more information in a concise format. By mentioning easy passive income, it appeals to the emotions of the buyers.
Use your words wisely and you’ll gain a far greater interest in your site.
The important point here is that instead of writing a random tagline, take out some time to examine the greatest strengths of your site and mention them in those 80 characters.
B. Summary
The summary section allows the sellers to use 200 words. Whatever you fill in this section is going to be displayed on your listing right below the tagline.
Unfortunately, there are no formatting options for the posts, so it is going to be plain text.
A wise move is to expand the tagline in a way that it explains the revenue sources for the website and how the website operates.
C. Description (Seller’s Notes)
The description is basically a golden opportunity for sellers. Here, sellers can write in as much detail as they like. In fact, Flippa encourages the sellers to provide a detailed description without fretting over a word limit. Here, formatting options are available so that you can make your descriptions easy to read and highlight the key points.
When buyers visit a listing, massive walls of text or a totally blank page immediately put them off. It shows that the seller is not really serious about selling the site and there is a hint of carelessness in the attitude.
Over the past few months, a generic template has been working out for quite some listings. It can prove to be beneficial if you also go according to those templates.
If you’re a regular Flippa buyer/seller, you’ve probably seen it before already, but here it is again. Feel free to download the Word Document (https://blog.flippa.com/perfect-website-listing-description) and use it in your own listing.
Add some bullet points to provide a systematised look wherever possible.
Step 7 – Sale
The auction type sale which has 7 to 10 days length is highly recommended. If the duration is shorter than this, there is a chance that you might miss out on potential buyers who don’t check the listings that frequently. If your listing is there for too long, buyers can lose interest or forget about your listing in the long run.
The reserve is the rate you would be willing to accept. Just to get the ball rolling, don’t list out a site without a reserve. Once a bid is made above the reserve, it is not possible to raise it again. Stick to the initial rate you decided and if bidding begins to rise, be grateful!
My recommendations. Escrow, escrow, and escrow only.
When you are checking on the method of payment, go over it once more to make sure that you didn’t accidentally click on Paypal. In this case, it is not advisable to use PayPal.
Step 8 – BIN – Buy it now (BIN)
Flippa’s websites director Joseph Carroll wrote a great article on how you can use BIN effectively to your benefit. It comprises some amazing strategies that can prove to be extremely beneficial to the seller. Do check it out: https://blog.flippa.com/buy-it-now-bin-a-winning-strategy
Important Things To Keep in Mind
1. The Comments section –Most of the sellers are not aware of the fact that if their listing has any new comments an automatic e-mail will be forwarded to all the potential buyers presently watching the website.
2. Ignore all offers outside of Flippa.
3. Attach all revenue/traffic screenshots and videos as much as you can…
Conclusion
After following the guidelines above, there are 99% chance you’ll have a successful sale like i did. You can also make $10,000+ in a month easily if you follow my advice for Flippa auction And if you successfully sold a website, then congratulations! Here’s to plenty more in the near future.
